Theme: Dealing with the Sounding Brass
Topic: The True Nature of Love Part 3
Text: 1Cor 13:6
"Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth"
Love always cries for and defends justice. It insists on the truth. "It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out" (LBT). Paul is bringing to us a morning breakfast that reinvigorates our spiritual strength. Wisdom is profitable to direct Prov 10:10. Paul was given as a gift to address issues affecting the church and the society. This is so in our own time when we face lots of injustices in our families, church and society; when there is survival of the fittest, justice goes to the highest bidder and truth is only for a class, a club, a forum, to the tribe, religion or race and when there is a widened gap between the rich and the poor. Love remains in our generation, what it was in Paul's generation. May God guide us well.
1. Addressing the past: Paul saw them rejoiced over evil in the past in 1Cor 5:6 "Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?" The immoral life of the people never gave them a concern. There was no remorse and no plan to treat it from the root. It became a canker worm that ate up the foundation of the people. Paul cried for justice. Church discipline is the divine justice that can stop God's wrath.
2. Addressing the presence: Love does not delight in evil. Only the believers in Christ and New Testament believers can reject the message of "Teeth for Tat". It's common to hear of "eye for an eye", "Tooth for a tooth". But Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said, " Eye for eye", and " tooth for tooth". But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also" 1Cor 13:38-39. Love is still crying for justice . It does not rejoice over evil.
3. Let as many of us that know the Scripture begin to obey the voice of wisdom. Jesus said to his disciples as he speaks to us today, "Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them" John 13:17
Prayer: Oh my LORD and my God, forgive me for my past mistakes, help me to right my wrongs and live a new godly and righteous character. I am blessed in Jesus name.
