Theme: The Shepherd's Hidden Words
Topic: True Disciples
Text: John 6:67-69
"So Jesus said to the twelve, " Do you want to go away as well? ". 68 Simon Peter answered him, " Lord, to whom shall we go? You have
the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God"
The True Disciples are genuine in their belief, confession and action. They are bold and speak with unshakable confidence. Their knowledge of God is always on the perfect tense, " We have entered a state of belief and knowledge that has continued until the present time". Paul who suffered shame in the name of Christ never saw it as shame "because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day" 2Tim 1:12. Have you truly believed in Jesus. Are you willing to die for his sake? Our relationship with Christ is a covenant of life and death.
1. True Disciples of Jesus were represented by Peter, the bold, sincere and outspoken action man. "Lord, to whom shall we go?". Those who sincerely enter into the covenant of life, are not religious or denominational harlots. They are stable, not double tongued but their "Yes" is "Yes" and their "No" is "No". This is because, they are never covenant breakers Matt 5:33-37
2. True Disciples of Christ look for eternal life and not temporal life. Peter said, "You have the words of eternal life" John 6:68b. God told his O. T. people "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live" Deut 30:19. And Jesus assured this people in N. T. "I am the way, the truth and the life" John 14:6. The attachment of article "the" shows how particular "Way" , "Truth", and "Life" are to his hearers. This is the life that God offers to those who consciously chose Jesus as LORD and personal SAVIOUR. This life is "eternal" - an endless life. If I die today I shall die no more. Have you believed?
3. True Disciples have experiential knowledge. "We believe and knowledge that you are the Holy One of God." "We know" (ginoskomen Greek). An experiential knowledge has no doubt, no confus0lion. Not because somebody told me but because, I know, I have tasted that Jesus has the word of life. Do you really know? Are you truly born again?
Prayer:
My Father and my Maker, thank you for forming the fullness of Christ in me, guide me to stand bold no matter the challenging opposition and confess that Jesus Christ is LORD in Jesus name
Action:
Share this to someone who needs to hear it today
