Theme: Dealing with the Sounding Brass
Topic: The True Nature of Love Part 2
Text: 1Cor 13:5
"It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs
More negative attitudes that do not at all picture true love include being arrogant, rude, selfish, easily angered, or keeping record of evil suffered. These negative attitudes display the true nature of the natural man. They justify retaliations and can be basis for getting those guilty of murder, punitive actions discharged in the court of law. God's judgement, because it's credible and just, shall suffer no appeal. God's unconditional love must be displayed in all areas of our relationships
1. ts unfortunate that marriages and other relationships do suffer unruly behavior in the name of love. How can we dishonor our spouses, pastors, employers, elders or seniors publicly and still claim we love them? This pretentious character is a sign that either one is not born again, not adequately born again or doesn't understand the real meaning of being born again. In such a situation, there is need for re-orientation.
2. Paul mentioned those who behaved unruly in the church and how he treated them. "Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme" 1 Tim 1:18-20. The church should not play or make light the attitude of unruly behavior among brethren. Doing so is destroying the love of brethren which is the evidence of God's presence among them.
3. Keeping records of wrong done in the injunction is having unforgiving character. Records are usually kept and yet can be forgiven. It's on record that "Hatred stirs up conflict but love covers over all wrongs" Prov 10:12. Peter advised the church "The end of all things is at hand. Therefore be alert and of sober minded so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins" 1Peter 4:7-8. Let's allow love to have it's way. We shall celebrate in heaven one day.
Prayer: Oh LORD, the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Give me the adequate spiritual strength to obey the scriptures to love accordingly, you will handle the rest for me in Jesus name.
