Theme: The Shepherd's Hidden Words
Topic:The Distinguishing Factors
Text: John 6:63-65
"The Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit, and they are life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe, and who would betray him"
Jesus mentions the distinguishing factors between those who believe and those who do not, those who u understand and those who do not; his true disciples and those who are fake. "For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him".
1. Walking in the Spirit. Jesus used two analogies- "Flesh and Blood" and "Bread and Wine". It takes only those who are walking in the Spirit to understand and accept the message they carry. Many of the disciples did not distinguish between spiritual and physical "spiritual and flesh" things but depended only on flesh.
2. Those who believed and those did not believe. Belief is the ability to trust, put confidence on something or somebody, to rely on,. Those who did not believe Christ are "the Jews" who began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" John 6:52. They did not ask to know but to discredit him. Those who did not believe did not have faith. Jesus reminds those disciples who had been influenced by the thought of the "Jews" that those who believe his word will receive eternal life. The Spirit gives life.
3. True followers and fake followers. Jesus knew from the beginning that there were both true and fake disciples among his group. True followers who understand the meaning and interpretation of the parables and illustrations will remain but those who do not understand, believe and do not have faith in the person of Jesus Christ will soon leave since they can't accept the hard saying John 6:61. These factors are seriously affecting the church today.. May God find us on the positive side
Prayer. Oh Lord my God, since you knew me before I knew myself, guide me to be on the positive side and may I be among those who consciously know you and remain for you in Jesus name.
