Theme: Dealing with the Sounding Brass
Topic: The Economy of Love
Text: Prov 15:17
"Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred" (NIV)
Love is so accommodating, so enduring and so appreciating. "It is better to eat soup with someone you love than steak with someone you hate" (LBT). Homes that eat quality food but lack love, will continue to lose weight. When there is love, one room can accommodate four people but where there is no love a duplex may not accommodate two people. Love is economical. Why can't we worship God in one denomination or one local church? Why can't we share together the abundant resources given to us by God Almighty? Why do we want to inherit all, control all, manage all? Greed, selfishness, tribalism, nepotism, racism etc have squeezed love and made it a sectional, denominational, tribal or racial thing. Love is in all, by all and for all.
1. Love gives perfect peace: "Better is a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife" Prov 17: 1. It's better I eat kanda and remain peaceful with my family than eat beef but in pain and sorrow. When love is dispensed well, it attracts peace, humility and simplicity.
2. The economy of love is based on wisdom and good planning. "Go to the ant thou sluggard and consider her ways, and be wise. Which having no guide, overseer nor ruler, provideth her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest" Prov 6:6-8 (KJV). Love is planned for, placed at it's junctions and supervised. It's presence must be found from foundation to the rafter of the house. A family, church or society that lacks love live in hostility, lacking in the midst of plenty and beg from those they are richer than. Hatred is an enemy that kills and buries it's victim. Let's reject it.
3. The economy of love is built on truthfulness and not in deception. "Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, " I am only joking" Prov 26:18-19 (ESV). You can not threaten or plan evil against your neighbor and say " I am joking" Joking with someone's life and destiny? Joking with someone's integrity and position? Joking with someone's history? A little space can accommodate us if we sincerely love ourselves. But in the midst of hatred, jealousy, wickedness, party Spirit and fault finding, no space is enough for us.
Prayer: Oh LORD my God, I thank you for the Spirit of love that makes things easier and cheaper for us; help us to submit to it, respect it and patiently follow it's directions for good neighborhood in Jesus name
