Topic: The Beginning of Real Love

Text: 1Sam 18:1-2


"After David had finished talking with Soul, Jonathan became one in Spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. 2 From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family" 


True and real love begins with a contact when the " Soul" of two different people unite together for a common goal. Love begins from the soul (Psyche which is the life-principle). Pretentious love is the one that dies not begin from the life-principle of the two people concerned but hangs on physical, psychological or political spheres. When our love depends on material, emotional, ethical things whether tangible or intangible things. He is my brother, she is beautiful, we are relatives or in-laws, may not show us real love. 


1. Love begins from our soul: The "Soul" of both Jonathan and David was knit together. 1Sam 18:1. Human being is a living soul, the real person in a spiritual form. It carries the image and likeness of God and is activated by the breath of God. It's the seed of God in man and never dies. It leaves at the death of the body and returns to the LORD who gave it and shall resurrect at the resurrection morning for eternity either in hell or heaven. Marriages that do not begin from the soul of the man and woman do not stand test of time. Our love should begin from our soul. This includes loving with all your heart, your soul, and mind ( intellect Matt 22:37)


2. True love starts from self: Jonathan loved David as Jonathan loved himself. Sometimes we are termed foolish and suffer loose because those we love as we love ourselves disappoint us. Don't worry. You are on track. "Love your neighbor as yourself" Matt 22:39. This is the summary of the ten commandments. Treat others as you treat others. Feel the impulse of another. Let's deal with our friends, wives, husbands, workers, neighbors as we deal with ourselves. This is the real and true love. 


3. True and real love enjoys a spontaneous and prompt moment. It clicks momentarily and develops from there. "Go and pray" "Come let's pray" seems to be a means of test, evaluation, more convictions, more assurance and proof. The conception of love in our lives happens same way as the conception of a child in the womb. Let's be sensitive in the Spirit. We shall know those who truly love us and those who hate us. Don't imagine! 


Prayer: Oh Lord my Father, help me never to allow the dainties of wickedness mislead me to fall into a pretentious love . Guide me to know when the love from my lover flows from the soul and I shall live to please you in Jesus name.
