Theme: Dealing with the Sounding Brass
Topic: A Useless Nobody
Text: 1Cor 13:2
"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing"
The absence of love in the life of any body no matter the spiritual, physical, social, political, religious or cultural height of the person, makes him or her "a useless nobody". This is the message of the time orchestrated by the Divine revelation. There is time for everything!
1. Prophetic powers without love: "And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose" 1Cor 13:2a (Amp). This proves the situation of churches where gifted and highly placed servants and leaders of churches have been involved into murder and all kinds of criminal cases. Without practical love (charity), we are useless nobody
2. To "understand all the secret truths and mysteries" (1Cor 13:2b Amp). This is another height in the spiritual realm This may also include all educational heights and accolades. Paul is speaking to both those in the church and outside the church. We have professors in different professions, academia, business tycoon, national and international figures who have acquired knowledge and are expected to make this world a better place to live. Unfortunately the word "LOVE" eludes them. They are full of hatred, selfish, and brutish Absence of love does not consider the existence of another life nor have pleasure in the comfort of another. May God help me to recognize that what is good to me is also good to another. Others' lives are as important as mine.
3. To "have {sufficient} faith so that I can move mountains" (1Cor 13:2c Amp)). It's possible to excise spiritual authority without the love of God. God honours his word. These are the type described by Jude, "These are hidden reefs at your love feast, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted" (Jude 1 ESV). Let love rule our hearts and actions so that we shall not be useless nobody when God has made us useful instruments on earth!.
Prayer: My LORD and my God, I thank you that you have made me useful in life. I surrender all that's in me and refuse to be a useless nobody from today and forever; let your genuine love fill my heart in Jesus name.
