Theme: The Shepherd's Hidden Words
Topic: The Battle of the Disciples Part III
Text: 2Sam 20:20 -21
"Joab answered, " Far be it from me, far be it, that I should swallow up or destroy. 21 That is not true. But a man of Ephraim, called Sheba the son of Bichri, has lifted up his hand against king David. Give up him alone, and I will withdraw from the city". And the woman said to Joab, " Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall'
Joab, Davids disciple and his defender, did not come to swallow and destroy but to defend and save. According to him there is a condition for justice and peace. Hand over Sheba the trouble maker, justice is done and peace is achieved. E
very trouble has its permanent solution. Peace cannot be gotten at the altar of injustice. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was "the propitiation for our sins: and not only for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" 1John 2:2. Justice is done when there is an atoning sacrifice. To hand over Sheba's head might be painful, but that would be the true condition for justice, peace and salvation of the land of Abel and her people. Divine justice has no compromise. May God continue to help us be the true representative of our heavenly Father.
1. Sheba was to Abel Beth Maacah what sin is to the world. Sheba corrupted the peaceful city and made her to stink before Joab and his troop."Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people" Prov 14:34. "For the wages of sin is death" Rom 6:23. Joab's condition was, " Give up him alone, and I will withdraw from the city" 2Sam 20:21. Isa 53:11 says " He shall see the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities". This is always the cry of justice. Your sins and mistakes must be treated through the sufferings and pains of Jesus.
2. Joab did not come to kill but to save. "Far be it from me, far be it, that I should swallow up or destroy. 2Sam 20:20. Even Jesus in his good mission suffered lots of accusations just to get reasons why he should be crucified. In one occasion he said, "For the son of man is come to save that which is lost" Matt 18:11. " I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" Matt 9:13.. Joab, like every good ambassador, stood firm for what he believed and came.
3. Both Joab and the Wise woman knew the truth, the consequences of evil and the demand for justice without compromise. He who goes to equity must go with clean hands. For peace to be achieved, justice must be given. To show her condemnation of Sheba who "has lifted up his hands against King David", she replied, "Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall'" 2Sam 20:21. May the Lord always guide us to do what is right and gets God's blessings
Prayer: O Lord my God, please help.me to always stand on the truth and do what is right; help me to acknowledge my errors and repent of them that I will remain a true ambassador you have made me to be in Jesus name.
