Theme: The Shepherd's Hidden Words

Topic: The Battle of the Disciples Part III

Text: 2 Sam 20:19

"I am one of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the heritage of the Lord?"

Every true Disciple is a true resemblance of his master. We are true representatives of our principal. The above scripture presents the True disciple as a personification of her city, Abel Beth Maacah a peaceable city in Israel. If we are not ashamed of Jesus our SAVIOUR, we should not be ashamed of his church. The wise woman's choice of first personal pronoun singular "I' (KJV & ESV) or plural " We" (NIV) is an indication of one's willingness to take responsibility on behalf of one's people, church or society. We must be true representatives of where we belong to.

1. A true Disciples is an ambassador. Paul said, "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us,. We implore you on Christ's behalf. Be reconciled to God 2 Cor 5:20. An ambassador is high ranking diplomat who represents his country in another country or an International organization. The wise woman, before Joab, the Diplomat of king David, stood on behalf of Abel Beth Maacah. "I am" or "We are". We can make or mar our church or organization

2. Our personal vision must represent the overall vision of our church or organization. The wise woman did not request for her own favor but the favor of her people and described her people as the peaceful and faithful people in Israel. She was never selfish. That Abel is the mother in Israel, is a symbol of honour and dignity. She magnified her people. Are we ashamed of representing our church or family or community? Let's know that our church is bigger than us.

3. Every ambassador is assigned to protect, project, and preserve his people. The wise woman said, "Why do you want to swallow up the Lord's inheritance" . Whatever we value much we protect. If we really love our family or church, we will never destroy it. Whatever we love, we must cherish. Though Bikri had succeeded at deceiving and recruited some less informed people of Abel to fight Joab, the wise woman still presented the people as peaceful people. This was to save the people from the horrors of Joab's military attack. Let's save and never destroy.

Prayer: My Lord God, my desire is that my people be saved; give me extra grace never to destroy but to save lives in Jesus name.
