Theme: Dealing with the Sounding Brass

Topic: The Noise Maker

Text: 1Cor 13:1

"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbals"

I welcome you to the month of divine demonstration of God's love. This is a month of practical love. Every spiritual demonstration in the bsence of this practical love in the midst of God's people is described as noise making. Today, we have lots of spiritual activities like: prayers, speaking in tongues, prophecies, teachings, gifts of palliatives, donations and supports that lack Christian love. This is what Paul called noise making. James 1:22 advises us "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves". May we rise up this month to ensure adequate practical Christianity.

1. Love is practical giving. " For God so loved the world that gave his one and only son" John 3:16a. Abraham gave his one and only son " Then God said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac whom you love and go to the region of Moriah, sacrifice him there as burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about" Gen 22:2.. Sacrificial giving as a practical giving means offering our living things dead to the receiver. It's an intentionally declaring dead our living possession to atone for our mistakes, fulfill our vows, show loyalty, commitment and obedience to the one we look upon. It's handing over what initially belongs to us to another with little or no expectations.

2. Love is demonstrative. "Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached on his hand and took the knife to slay his son" Gen 22:9-10. Abraham had killed Isaac in his heart before raising his hand up to kill him. We give by the decisions of the heart: "Each one will give what he has decided in his heart to give. Not reluctantly or under compulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver" 1Cor 9:7. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" Rom 5:8.

3. Practical love supercedes every other spiritual enduement. " Now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" 1Cor 13:13. Any spiritual activity done in the absense of love in any charismatic exercise is noise making. Let's not cause nuisance to our neighbourhood but to remain relevant.

Prayer: Oh LORD, make me to remain relevant to my generation; my life will not be noise making this month and beyond in Jesus name.
